MMOKings was started in 2003 by Paul King. The company is an entirely U.S home based business run by six core employees who work from their home offices throughout the country. “I literally started selling virtual currency from...my buddy's basement”, says King. MMOKings is one of the last mom-and-pop U.S based virtual currency companies in existence. The virtual currency still comes from gold farmers in developing countries, but all of customer service, delivery, management, and powerleveling hails out of the Iowan heartland.

MMOKings remains the most honest virtual currency company we have ever dealt with. They are completely open about where they are based, provide a personal U.S phone number for any problems, and are still able to offer competitive prices.

Purchasing

MMOKings uses a standard purchasing process that is extremely non-intrusive. If you are a new user you create a quick account profile, select the currency you wish to purchase, enter in your character name and telephone number and then check out via Paypal or Credit card. They require that you have a verified PayPal address or a way to match up a telephone number with your credit card address as a fraud prevention measure. However, if you only have a cell phone or an unlisted telephone number they are more than willing to work with you to find a safe way to verify your identity.

The only qualms that we had was the site at times felt very static in the sense that colossal images that say “World of Warcraft” should be hyperlinks that you can click to take you to the proper game’s currency screen. These are minor nuisances however and overall purchasing was quick, secure, and non-intrusive.

Customer Service

MMOKings has one of the most genuine and helpful customer service team we have found. This is due to its small mom-and-pop nature run by a small team working from home across the U.S. This means each customer service representative has a huge amount of responsibility and power allowing them to actually solve your problems, not just tell you that someone is looking into it or fabricate delay tactics like many other service providers.

The average live chat wait time was slightly over a minute and the customer service agents responses were quick, helpful, and in perfect English. They were completely open about their business operations, where the virtual currency came from, average delivery time, where they were based out of, etc. These may seem like simple questions for any legitimate company to answer, but in the virtual currency industry there are only a few rare companies who are willing to honestly answer these basic questions.

Delivery

MMOKings claims that for most games they delivery currency within 30 minutes. However, for games in high demand such as FFXI and WoW delivery can take between two to forty-eight hours with the majority going out in under eight hours. Being a smaller operation they don’t have the fastest delivery available, but unlike other currency companies they always deliver and are completely honest about delivery times.

As long as you don’t need your gold instantly, than MMOKings is a great provider. They may not be the quickest, but they make up for it in consistency. Many carriers that claim to offer “instant” delivery often fail to come through, and you are sometimes completely forgotten about. MMOKings is highly consistent in delivering within two to forty-eight hours. They are so comfortable that they give you their home address and phone number, something no Chinese company would think of doing even when they live halfway around the world from most of their customer base.

Conclusion

MMOKings is the virtual currency company we have been waiting for. They offer excellent customer service that actually cares about the customer. Their entire business is based on repeat customers with a limited marketing budget with most new customers coming from word of mouth referrals. They continue to combine a mom-and-pop approach with a professional management system ensuring that you receive your virtual currency in a timely fashion.They even seem *gasp* ethical! They don’t lie, create holding companies, secretly purchase fan sites to use as propaganda machines, pretend to be countries they aren’t, or anything of the sort. 

It’s sad that we are amazed and dole out 4 and ½ stars when we find an ethical competent company that simply does what most consumers would consider a “proper job”, but such is the state of the industry. Hopefully as consumers become more informed they will start voting with their dollars for companies like MMOKings.
